Confronting social and environmental injustice, civil resistance is an increasingly prominent feature of global politics. This discussion addresses common public misperceptions, including about the Middle East and the notion of “nonviolence.” What is civil resistance? Is it a weapon of the weak? Can it work against oppressive regimes? Must it be “nonviolent”?
