Travels: An Accordion Journey with Olivia Steimel

The German accordionist Olivia Steimel first came in contact with Canada through a collaboration with Canadian composer Anna Pidgorna, whose work, Light-play through curtain holes, she premiered in Calgary in 2010. Anna will be present at the concert.
Ms. Steimel has received prizes in several competitions including the 2010 competition of the Musikalische Akademie W�rzburg, the 58th Deutscher Hochschulwettbewerb, and, together with guitarist Josef M�cksch, the 48th International Accordion Competition in Klingenthal, Germany. She began studies with Prof. Stefan Hussong at the University of Music in W�rzburg, Germany in 2007. In 2009 Ms. Steimel received funding from ERASMUS to study in Florence with Ivano Battiston and is currently funded by a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. Recently she became a founder of �Yehudi Menuhin-Live Music Now� and has been playing with the Philharmonic Orchestra of W�rzburg since 2009.
