Timbre! wraps up their 42nd singing season with a concert called We Got Rhythm in the ADSS Theatre in Port Alberni.

Opening the concert will be a set titled Canada Sings featuring selections by several Canadian composers and arrangers including Royal Hudson - composed by Dave Baker & arranged by Larry Nickel, arrangements by Vancouver composers Stephen Smith - Scarborough Fair and Stephen Chatman - The Grand Hotel and Pussy Willow, Cat-tails by the iconic Canadian composer Gordon Lightfoot. This new arrangement by Larry Nickel will feature the Timbre! Ladies.

Rounding out the first half of the concert will be a Celtic section - Loch Lomond and Mairi's Wedding, a Choral Suite of music from the animated Disney movie Frozen and two songs of peace - I Dreamed of Rain by Jan Garrett - arranged by Larry Nickel and The Rain is Over and Gone by Paul Halley. This last piece features soprano soloist Michelle Weckesser. Vancouver based pianist Danielle Marcinek will be the piano accompanist.  

After intermission Timbre! will be joined by a jazz trio of Barry Miller (piano), David Baird (Bass) and Dave Auld (drums). This part of the concert features everything from Gershwin's I Got Rhythm thru to Elton John's Your Song. Broadway highlights include music from Phantom of the Opera and Mamma Mia.  

Pat and Barry Miller have been working with Timbre! since 1984. Some of the highlights during that time include performances around the province at Whistler, the Port Theatre in Nanaimo, Campbell River, Powell River, Qualicum, Victoria and Vancouver. Timbre!'s greatest challenge and thrill was their performance at the Canadian Choral Celebration in New York City at Carnegie Hall in 1995.

The choir has also been fortunate to work with some outstanding choral leaders in North America including Bruce Pullan, Jon Washburn, Larry Nickel, Diane Loomer, Janet Warren, James Fankhauser and many others. Timbre! has commissioned works by composers Stephen Chatman and Larry Nickel who attended the premiere performances in Port Alberni. Singer/songwriter Dave Baker, formally of Port Alberni, was also in attendance at the choir's presentations of some of his popular West Coast themed based compositions including Land of Maquinna and The Old Lady Rose.

Tickets for We Got Rhythm will be available in April from Rollin Art Centre, Salmonberry's and Echo Centre. Adults & Seniors $15. Children & Students $5.
