The Vic Theatre presents: THE DEATH OF STALIN

Armando Iannucci, creator of biting political satires such as Veep and the Oscar-nominated In The Loop, is back with a Soviet-era comedy that is hilarious as it is horrifying. In 1953 Russia, Stalin’s paranoia is terrorizing the country as thousands are murdered in an attempt to weed out his enemies. When Stalin suddenly drops dead one night, his bumbling, power-hungry lackeys wage war amongst one another as they try to take control. Featuring an incredible ensemble including Steve Buscemi, Jeffrey Tambor, Michael Palin, Andrea Riseborough, and Jason Isaacs; Iannucci’s vision of corrupt officials, inept leadership, and depraved morals cements him as a comedic genius, even if it does hit a little close to home in today’s political landscape.
“The funniest, smartest, most unforgiving comedy in years, and the best satiric film of the 2010s.”
– Tim Braytom, Alternateending.com
“Vladimir Putin’s Ministry of Culture has banned “The Death of Stalin” from being shown in Russia. There can be no greater praise.”
– Ty Burr, The Boston Globe
