“The Tidesmen Chorus - First-Class Barbershop Harmony” Coming to the McMillan Arts Centre, a Sunday afternoon of barbershop harmony with The Tidesmen Chorus. Sunday, September 20 from 2:00 – 4:00. Tickets - $15.00 & $12.00 for OCAC members and available for presale at the McMillan Arts Centre, 133 McMillan Street, Parksville or from any member of the Tidesmen.

The Tidesmen of Vancouver Island have been entertaining audiences since 1973 with first class Barbershop Harmony. They currently have a chorus approaching 70 members. They participate annually in the Evergreen District competition, part of the international Barbershop Harmony Society's regular chorus contest, and in 2013, won second place. "The Tidesmen are fun, challenging, and supportive as they strive for excellence in singing and entertainment. Their positive influence is shared with their community through song and service.”

They take pride in serving the Oceanside community. For many years now they have dedicated a portion of our revenues to supporting the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, and perform annually on the CDC’s fund-raising telethon. They also give music bursaries each year to one or more deserving music students to help fund their further education. They perform at low or no charge for worthy causes, including retirement homes and charity benefits.

They currently have four registered quartets, which is unprecedented in a chorus of their size, and is one reason why the standard of their singing is rising so rapidly and in demand.

Alex McDonald has been singing with the Tidesmen for almost 20 years and took over leadership as Musical Director from Mike Gibbs in January 2015. He enjoys sharing his gifts and inspiring others to grow and develop as artistic vocalists. And is honoured to be given the helm of such an active and successful chorus. As he brings change and innovation to the chorus, he looks forward to a future of unknown potential and beauty!
