By popular demand, a second free public screening of The Thinking Garden:
Wed. March 15 @ 7 pm, David Lam Auditorium (MacLaurin A144), UVic. A documentary film about South African women sowing the seeds of change. 37 min. Q&A following.
Three generations of women created a community garden in the dying days of apartheid. They called it “the thinking garden” – hleketani – a place where women gather to think about how to effect change. Twenty-five years later the garden is still going strong, helping to confront the ravages of climate change, poverty and HIV/AIDS.
The Thinking Garden tells the inspiring story of what can happen when older women take matters into their own hands and how local action in food production can give the most vulnerable people a measure of control over their food and their future. xiTsonga with English subtitles.
