The Story of Isobel Gunn is presented as a special presentation of the Tales for the Telling, Storytelling for Adults, season.
The Storytellers of Canada is holding its annual conference in Vancouver in July and many storytellers from across the country are travelling to Vancouver to attend.
Tales for the Telling has been fortunate to book Deborah Dunleavy, a recent recipient of a Canada Council grant from Brockville, Ontario, to join us for this very special presentation.
The year is 1805. A young Orkney lass disguises herself as a boy. The Hudson Bay Company hires the "boy." Their destination - Rupert's Land.
This grueling adventure is brought to life by international storyteller Deborah Dunleavy who takes on the role of Isobel Gunn in the years between 1805 and 1808, and in the final days of her life sixty years later. The story unfolds as an epic story crafted by Dunleavy and set to orchestrated music by composer Howard Alexander.
Deborah Dunleavy is an award-winning story writer and storytelling artist with over 30 years of professional experience creating, producing, and touring storytelling programs nationally and internationally.
