The Slackers, along with Sammy K and the Fast Four, perform at The Queen's on October 24.
Since 1991, The Slackers have been performing what Bandleader Vic Ruggiero, calls "Jamaican Rock N' Roll." You can hear in their rhythms the sounds of Jamaican roots music like those done by The Skatalites and Early Wailers but its sung with a New York accent, and their original songs are written from an American perspective. Their reworking of genre, sounds something similar to what Bob Dylan, the Sonics, or the Rolling Stones would have sounded like if they grew up on as much Reggae and Ska as they did R&B.
This year, they are presenting their fans with a mix of new and old releases. Their latest E.P. "My Bed is A Boat" is a groovy lo-fi manifesto (http://whatevski.org/releases/dip/29), recorded in the Brooklyn studios of legendary producer Ticklah (Antibalas, Dap Kings). The band is also re-releasing music from its deep catalog, highlighted by a special double vinyl release of their 2001 classic album, Wasted Days with 10 previously unreleased tracks! www.theslackers.com
