The Road Forward, a musical documentary by Marie Clements, connects a pivotal moment in Canada’s civil rights history-the beginnings of Indian Nationalism in the 1930s-with the powerful momentum of First Nations activism today.
The Road Forward‘s stunningly shot musical sequences, performed by an ensemble of some of Canada’s finest vocalists and musicians, seamlessly connect past and present with soaring vocals, blues, rock, and traditional beats. A rousing tribute to the fighters for First Nations rights, a soul-resounding historical experience, and a visceral call to action.
Director Marie Clements will be in attendance and a Q&A will take place following the screening, in partnership with the Pacific Opera Victoria. Rated G – No Membership Required – 19+ Event
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR Marie Clements is an award-winning writer, director and producer who has worked to ignite her brand of independent story-making to a variety of mediums including film, TV radio, new media and live performance. Her libretto Missing a co-production between City Opera Vancouver and Pacific Opera will premiere November 2017 in Victoria. Clements will be attending the screening of her movie The Road Forward at The Vic and we will be hosting a Q&A following the film, in partnership with the Pacific Opera Victoria.
