The Black Dot is excited to welcome home Brodie West for a rare solo concert. Brodie left our favoured shores too many years ago but on this night he returns to share his musical treasure in an improvised format. In his time away Brodie has worked some of the most innovative players in the jazz world and beyond. From his early years studying with Steve Jones and Gerry Taylor here in Nanaimo in Malaspina's Music Program and the Wellington High School Band Brodie expanded his horizons to work with legends such has Han Bennink and Misha Mengelberg. He has recorded his own music with a variety of groups and solo.
Brodie's work has garnered the attention of many landing him as a guest on recordings by such artists as Gord Downie, Broken Social Scene and Bob Wiseman. Live settings have taken Brodie to all ends of earth from festivals and renowned venues such as All Tomorrow's Parties in England, The Hagger Fikker Theatre in Addis Ababa, Chicago's Centennial Park Amphitheatre, Seattle's Earshot Jazz Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. Joining Brodie in support will be Massless. A sax/bass/keyboard duo with an enigmatic sound and vision that have captured the imagination of many in sound.
