Canada's involvement in the First World War began on August 14, 1914, when Britain declared war on Germany.
Out of an expeditionary force of 620,000, Canadian casualties at the end of the war totaled 67,000 killed and 170,000 wounded. This was an enormous sacrifice from a country with a population of under eight million.
In addition to the presentation Gavin Cooper will also display and describe a collection of First World War artifacts.
The Nanaimo Historical Society looks forward to your attendance at this special presentation. Please brings your questions, comments, and memories to share with our speaker.
