The Nanaimo Conservatory of Music is proud to present celebrated pianist and Officer of the Order of Canada, Janina Fialkowska, in concert with an all Frédéric Chopin program, on Sunday, March 13th, 2016 at 2:30 pm at the Port Theatre. The concert is the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music’s annual fundraising event.

The Montreal, Canada-born Ms. Fialkowska receives accolades for her interpretation of the Classic and Romantic repertoires, and rave reviews for her Chopin, Mozart and Liszt performances. Her career was initially launched by Arthur Rubinstein, after her award-winning performance at his Master Piano Competition. Fialkowska has shared the stage with the globe’s most prestigious orchestras, among them London's Philharmonia Orchestra, the BBC Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra, to name just a few. She has worked with all of the principal Canadian and American orchestras, and internationally with the top orchestras in Europe and Japan.  Ms. Fialkowska has worked with acclaimed conductors from around the world, including Kyril Kondrashin, Sir Andrew Davis, Charles Dutoit, Bernard Haitink, and Hans Graf. Her most recent concert at the Musashino Citizen Concert Hall in Tokyo, Japan, was completely sold out.

Fialkowska’s CD recording entitled "Liszt Recital" has been described as, "the most beautiful Liszt CD of this decade" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).  Her global solo recital tours in Europe, North America, and the Far East have received exceptionally high compliments and praise from critics.  “We have had many celebrated executants in London in this Chopin anniversary year - Zimerman, Pollini and Yundi Li among them - but none has taken my breath away quite like Fialkowska. This annual concert fundraiser allows the not-for-profit charity Nanaimo Conservatory of Music to raise essential funds in order to continue offering the Nanaimo community the very best in musical instruction and performance skills.  In addition to the concert, the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music is pleased to be offering a Master Class with Janina Fialkowska on Monday, March 14, 2016, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Conservatory, at 375 Selby Street.
