The Mysticism of Teilhard de Chardin

FEBRUARY 24-25. Journey to Omega: The Mysticism of Teilhard de Chardin with Margaret Walters Teilhard’s mystical vision of cosmogenesis was forged in the fires of World War I. His conviction that love is the dominant force in the universe was both unsentimental and pragmatic, and his own difficult life was devoted to an ongoing surrender to the power of love.
Teilhard’s passionate love of manifest reality allowed him to swim against the current of his time that dictated otherwordly transcendence. “There is a communion with God,” he insisted, “and a communion with the earth, and a communion with God through the earth” (Writings in Time of War). Teilhard had many intimate relationships with strong women, and he could not have produced his great life work without them. Through all his personal struggles, he developed an even stronger trust in the Cosmic Christ-Omega, the fulfillment of all being through the divinization of the Cosmos.
