The Mex Pub presents This is THE SHOES with Cathedral Groove on January 11, 2014.

This is THE SHOES

Since this is THE SHOES formed in 2011, Vancouvers Jereme Collette (kick drum; acoustic, electric, slide guitars) and Sabrina Robson (vocals, harmonica, percussion) have been writing and performing raw-toned, dirty blues music with a nod to the sounds of Big Mama Thornton, Southern Soul and late 60s Garage Punk. They have played throughout Vancouver, at clubs such as the Biltmore Cabaret and the Media Club, and in festivals further afield, including Rifflandia Festival and the Wapiti Music Festival, making every note count. In a band that is about timbre over decoration, music over masquerade, and sound over form, if a song doesnt speak for itself, it isnt a this is THE SHOES song. Their stripped down music is the Anti-Fluff, delivering traditional blues through an ever-expanding lens and range that removes rock, soul, and blues from compartmentalized formats and drives them into hard running, emotional channels that reject embellishment, contrivance, and branding.

Cathedral Groove

Formed in the summer of 2012, Cathedral Groove is a four piece rock band. If one were to hear the Groove play theyd compare them to their influences Led Zeppelin, Kings of Leon, The White Stripes and pieces from the Tragically Hip with a hint of dance-rock vibe to get your feet moving. Hence, groove-rock.

Brian Wilson, the bass guitarist, co-founded the band with Keenan Lee, the rhythm guitarist/vocalist and main creative force of the band. After sifting through some drummers, they finally met Rod Kervin. The trio worked well together, like peanut butter, jelly and bread, now all they needed was a banana in between. Soon enough the banana to the sandwich had fell into place. Jay Luty teamed up with Cathedral Groove as their lead guitarist.

Cathedral Groove has made a distinguished presence in the Central-Northern part of Vancouver Island. Co-headlining shows in the Comox Valley; along with a mini tour through Hornby and Denman Island. Cathedral Grooves down to earth groove-rock genre is sure to leave you singing their songs.
