instructor: MENEIYE
cost: $95 + HST (lunch included)
My name is MENEIYE, I am from the WSNE people on Southern Vancouver Island. Our territory is on Southern Vancouver Island but also throughout the Gulf Islands as well. I am a SENEN language apprentice at the L̵U,WELEW Tribal School and work at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre. I am a young person who has listened to the stories and teachings of my elders, I am looking forward to sharing with you what I can. During our day together I would like to tell you about the history of my people in the Gulf islands), the knowledge that we carry about the life within it, and some of the medicinal uses of the plant life within my territory. We will spend the day exploring the land surrounding Foxglove Farm looking at the different species of plants, and what they were used for by my people. I am going to talk about the 13 moon calendar that the WSNE People live by, the changes that are happening with the land and how we can work together to keep the cycle intact and at the same pace it has been at for so many years. At the end of the day we will set up a pit cook, feast, and share stories.
