Presented by Nanaimo Blues Society

Armed with a sack of harmonicas, a mess of foot percussion, and a road-worn Telecaster, Shawn ‘The Harpoonist’ Hall and Matthew ‘The Axe Murderer’ Rogers kick out raw and primal blues in the tradition of a ‘decades-deep blues style’ (Scott Brown, What’s up Yukon), while infusing the genre with a jolt of renewed energy. Directed by Mike Southworth, their latest video for “A Real Fine Noise” is a modern take on the seductive side of their blues roots.

“A gritty and funky treat… swiftly becoming known as one of the country's top live blues acts.” Exclaim!

Their new album, A Real Fine Mess was recorded in both Vancouver and Nanaimo and was born over 8 floatplane rides, 18 ferry trips, and a barrage of texts and email arguments. The album itself explores complicated dichotomies; like how one’s life can appear successful on one hand, yet be clouded by doubt and struggles on the other, and how all that is celebrated hangs in the balance with the potential to fall apart at any moment.

Hall and Rogers have received considerable recognition in the last few years. They were nominated for four Maple Blues Awards and won 'Blues Act of the Year' at the SiriusXM Indies in 2013. The duo has also pounded their fair share of festival stages including SXSW, Winnipeg Folk Fest, Ottawa Blues Fest, Calgary Folk Fest, and Montreal Jazz Fest. Along the way they’ve shared the stage with Taj Mahal, Booker T Jones, David Wilcox, Mother Mother, and The Sheep Dogs. They’ve had songs featured on television shows such as the 'The Good Wife', 'Blue Bloods', and the aptly named TV movie 'Lizzie Borden Took An Axe'.

The Harpoonist and The Axe Murderer have been crisscrossing the continent since mid-June and have laid down acclaimed performances at Northern Lights Festival, Keloha Festival, Ness Creek Festival, Hillside Festival, Burnaby Roots & Blues, Regina Folk Festival and more. Now, the duo is on the road for a two month tour across Western and Central Canada and the US.
