Thursday, September 13th, 2018
6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Around the world, over 60 million people are currently displaced creating the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War. Our event will explore global, national and local responses to the crisis and a discussion on what we can all do to help. There is new funding available for groups that are interested in sponsoring an individual or family.

The event is also a fundraiser for the Salish Sea Refugee Sponsorship Group who have been working together to bring members of a Syrian refugee family to Victoria for the past two years.

Opening: Sari Alesh, Syrian Violinist (formerly played with the Syrian National Symphony)

Speakers:

Dr. Oliver Schmidke - Director of UVic's Center for Global Studies

Sabine Lehr - Private Sponsorship of Refugees Manager at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria

Thaer Harba - Recent refugee settled in Victoria

A Q&A will follow, plus light refreshments will be served.
