The upcoming melodrama, �The City Slicker and Our Nell� is currently in rehearsal. Sponsored by the Cumberland Centre for the Arts and the Cumberland Empire Days Society

The play has been adapted to showcase Cumberland�s history and families.

Cue cards tell you when to BOO the villain (Sheridan Dunsmuir), cheer (YAY) the hero (Dan Moncrief), sigh (AHH) the heroine (Nellie Robertson Beard).

�Modern� melodramas stem from their popular Victorian cousins. We have our dastardly villain and, in this case, a villainess, a hero who looks the whole world in the face, Nell � our innocent victim, a sweet mountain flower and Toby, who�s not as dumb as he seems and, well � let�s not give it all away. There are other memorable characters as well.

This is ideal family entertainment. Kids just love to interact with the actors.

Tickets are available at the Cumberland Recreation Institute, and Home and Garden Gate both in Cumberland and downtown Courtenay. Adults are $10., children 6 � 12 are $5., a family (4 people) is $25.
