Six-time Grammy Award winners, The Chieftains, founded by Paddy Moloney, Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy have been highly recognized for reinventing traditional Irish music on a contemporary and International scale. Their ability to transcend musical boundaries to blend tradition with modern music has notably hailed them as one of the most renowned and revered musical groups to this day. After fifty years of making some of the most beautiful music in the world, The Chieftains' music remains as fresh and relevant as when they first began.
Whether serving as a session musician, solo artist, or soundtrack composer, 6-time Grammy award winner Ry Cooder's chameleon-like slide guitar work, songwriting, and choices of material encompass an incredibly eclectic range of North American musical styles, including rock & roll, blues, reggae, Tex-Mex, Hawaiian, Dixieland jazz, country, folk, R&B, gospel, and vaudeville. He is ranked 8th on Rolling Stone Magazines List of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Ry Cooder also produced the Buena Vista Social Club album (1997), which became a world-wide hit.
In 2010, The Chieftains rekindled their Grammy-winning partnership with Ry Cooder and collaborated on the album San Patricio. The TD Victoria International JazzFest is proud to present to Victoria audiences this very rare performance of The Chieftains with Ry Cooder.
