The Broadbent Institute is kicking off its Stand up for Progress National Tour featuring Harry Leslie Smith in Victoria on Thursday, June 18. Smith is the author of the acclaimed book Harry’s Last Stand: How the World My Generation Built is Falling Down, and What We Can Do to Save it.

At 92, he’s Canada’s oldest rebel inspiring the next generation of activists. Smith survived the Great Depression and fought in the Second World War for his birth country. After the war, he left the United Kingdom for Canada, and built a life with his family in Ontario and helped to build the social welfare state as an antidote to the crushing poverty of his youth. Smith knows what’s at stake in this key election year. That’s why he’s coming to Victoria as part of this six-city tour.

You won’t want to miss Smith’s speech or the panel discussion to follow with young progressive activists ready to make an impact in the federal election.
