The band features a foot-tapping Quintet which combines traditional Cuban rhythms and contemporary jazz music, with Brent Jarvis (Rhodes), Adonis Puentes (vcls & percussion), the great Miguleito Valdes (Tmpt. and percussion.), the Legendary Ken Lister (bass) and Hector Ramos (congas.) We are so spoiled having such fine musicians living on Vancouver Island!
Brent studied music at the University of Toronto, completing a Bachelor's Degree in jazz music in 2002. In 2021, Brent was awarded a Masters Degree in Musicology from the University of Victoria. Brent held a professorial position in the Music Department at Vancouver Island University. Brent holds a BMUS in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto (2002) and a MA in Musicology from the University of Victoria (2022). Brent’s MA thesis in Musicology is a multidisciplinary examination of technological mediation in 20th Century jazz music: Jazz music: the technological mediation of an aural tradition.
