The Biosphere Region in Your Backyard

It’s finally here - the first community course that tells all about the UNESCO biosphere region in your backyard. Developed by the research team at the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI), this engaging event will be launched on Saturday, September 26th from 1pm to 3pm at Milner Gardens and Woodland.
 
MABRRI staff and student researchers will guide participants through a well-crafted workshop that includes mini lectures, fun activities, a ‘world café’ style discussion, and stunning visuals. The course is tailored to an adult audience and participants must register in advance (see info below).
 
Established in 2000, Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region is part of an international network of 651 UNESCO biosphere reserves worldwide. The biosphere stretches from Nanoose Bay to Qualicum and extends from Mount Arrowsmith into the Salish Sea. “Our goal is to help build a sustainable future in the region by connecting people and nature through research and education,” explains Dr. Pam Shaw, Director of Research at MABRRI.
 
To register for the course, please call 1-866-734-6252 and provide the course number: MGWM 010. One can also register in person at VIU’s Parksville Centre (100 Jensen Ave. E., Parksville) or  VIU’s Nanaimo Campus (Registration Centre, Building 200, 900 Fifth St., Nanaimo). Cost is $5 for Milner members and $15 for non-members (non-member price includes admission to the garden).
