On July 23rd The Old School House Arts Center (TOSH) will be hosting the 24th Annual Grand Prix d'Art Painting Race.
Artists will be stationed at various spots throughout the Qualicum Beach streets, giving visitors the opportunity to interact and observe art in the making! This event attracts roughly fifty Plein Air Painters from Vancouver Island and BC's lower mainland, as well as hundreds of spectators, making it a special occasion with a variety of sights to see!
The Grand Prix d'Art is a "race" wherein competing artists must complete a work of art "en plein air" (outdoors) within a three hour time frame. Each Plein Air Painter will find a location in the picturesque town of Qualicum Beach. Their work must represent or be inspired by some thing/person visible from the assigned location. All locations are within walking distance of TOSH.
Visitors are encouraged to watch the process and progress. Maps will be available. This event will begin at 11:00am and end at 3:00pm, when a panel of three judges will determine the winners.
The framed and priced paintings will be hung for display at TOSH and made available for purchasing by the general public until August 7th. See you there!
