If you are looking for romance or a romantic evening with the one you love, then "That's Amore" at the Florence Filberg Centre is the place to be on June 5th, 2010. The Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society would love for you to join them for a worthy cause and enjoy a romantic evening of fine dining, live music & dinner theatre to raise funds to support our Residential Programs My Own Home Barriers Fund.
Chef James Street, Owner/Operator of Brambles Market will be creating an Italian influenced dinner with a focus on lovingly combined local ingredients that will have you dreaming of a romantic getaway to Italy. But you dont have to dream tickets to the event may be eligible to be entered for a draw to win a trip for two to Italy! Now thats amore! The winner must be present at the fundraiser when the winning ticket is drawn to be valid, but who would want to pass up a delicious meal, great entertainment and the opportunity to help a worthy cause?
This years cause is the My Own Home initiative, started by Dawn to Dawns Residential Program in July 2008 to provide market housing in the form of seven two-bedroom shared apartments. We have housed 28 people to-date by providing a home, independence planning and support, and residents can attend programs aimed at improving life skills, health and securing employment.
Last years fund-raiser, The Black Tie and Chilli Hard Times Ball, raised over $9,000 through the generous support of local businesses, and Valley residents who attended the event. These funds allow us to remove barriers to housing the homeless and hence we named it the Barriers Fund. Dawn to Dawn uses these funds to prepare apartments for occupancy, maintenance, moving costs, furniture, start-up kits, local line phones and hydro where applicable, work clothes, room-mate matching and much more.
This year, the Thats Amore fund-raising goal is $15,000 through tickets sales, a silent auction and the continued generous support of local businesses and residents of the Comox Valley. Our entertainment will include a musical revue entitled I Luv a Piano directed by Gloria Herauf and featuring Jacquie Lambeth. As well, Courtenay Little Theatre will be entertaining us with their innovative and creative theatre production.
