If you think it is time to put your stories on paper and you want to know how to get started, then you should think about joining Marva K. Blackmore, Storyteller, Author, and Editor, for her Memoir Writing Workshop, "Telling Your Story."
Marva is the past president of the Storytellers of Canada. She is an experienced storyteller and workshop leader who will help guide you through
the process of constructing your stories from your favourite and most vivid memories. Using the time-honored techniques utilized by storytellers around the world, she will help you unleash those stories and capture them on paper.
This is a six-week workshop that takes place each Monday (October 15, 22, 29 and November 5, 12, and 19) from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville.
The registration fee covers all six Mondays and includes all your materials. All you bring is a writing implement.
Marva has told stories across Canada and internationally on stage, at festivals, in coffee houses, and at the National Arts Center in Ottawa. She delights her audiences with her stories, including personal and folk tales. She has learned from the folk tales about how to construct stories that are interesting and draw the reader into the tale.
She has also spent the last few years helping people write and edit their memoirs and brings that experience to this workshop. And now she will show you how to apply those techniques to your stories. She is also a certified Guided Autobiography instructor.
First, she will help you draw stories from within yourself and help you organize them to create your own memoir. This will be six weeks well spent and at the end of it, if you participate and do the work, you should be well on your way to creating your own memoir.
