As the son of one of the most iconic figures in jazz, drummer Dan Brubeck has certainly lived up to his father’s towering legacy. Over the years Dan was featured on nearly a dozen albums with his father, and toured widely with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, as well as being an integral part of the various Brubeck bands. His latest album, Celebrating the Music and Lyrics of Dave and Iola Brubeck, has been nominated for a 2016 Juno for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year” which pays homage to the 70-year musical legacy of his parents: Dave, the legendary pianist, and mother Iola, the gifted but largely unknown lyricist. Dan’s quartet will not avoid the best-known numbers, offering memorable versions of the oftinterpreted “Blue Rondo a la Turk” and the enduring hit “Take Five” for this performance.
