TD Victoria International JazzFest: Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra f. Ingrid Jensen
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Montreal-based Christine Jensen has long-held an enviable international reputation, both as a composer and as a compelling voice on saxophone. After absorbing the basics in Nanaimo’s celebrated school music program, she went onto McGill for advanced jazz tutelage prior to launching a career that has been nothing short of remarkable.
Long a certified star of mainstream jazz, Christine is celebrated for her wonderful tone, improvisational skills, and interesting musical ideas. She earned a Juno in 2011 for her album Treelines, which is the principal inspiration for this tour. Her hard-swinging 19 member orchestra notably features Ingrid Jensen, Christine’s sister, a trumpet virtuoso based in New York who has also performed all over the world. Expect an exciting mix of jazz smarts and passion when Christine makes her return to TD JazzFest. Jocelyn Couture lead trumpet, Bill Mahar trumpet, Dave Mossing trumpet, Aaron Doyle trumpet, Robert Ellis trombone, Jean-Nicholas Trottier trombone, David Grott lead trombone, Dave Martin trombone, Samuel Blais saxophone/clarinet, Donny Kennedy saxophone/flute, Erik Hove saxophone, Steve Kaldestad saxophone, Andre Leroux saxophone, Kenny Bibace guitar, Fraser Hollins bass, Richard Irwin drums, John Roney piano
“One of the most important Canadian composers of her generation.” – Globe and Mail
