TAPIS – TAPESTRY WEAVERS OF VANCOUVER ISLAND TAPIS is a group of tapestry weavers from Powell River, all parts of Vancouver Island down to Victoria, and the small gulf islands off of Vancouver Island. We get together once a month for a meeting and another time for a study group. We get together to inspire each other and share our tapestry art.
Some of us have taken workshops together to further our knowledge and to share with the others in the group. We have participated in several group tapestry shows and several of our members enter exhibitions in Canada, USA, Mexico, Australia and Europe.
We range from beginner tapestry weavers to experienced and professional tapestry artists. We will have tapestries that were in the American Tapestry Alliance, ATA, Small Format exhibit in 2016, Tapestry Unlimited, our group challenge “On The Edge”. We will have the “H” word tapestries from our local group of the challenge that Archie Brennan gave us. There will be a new community tapestry woven on by six of our members and some others, designed by Lucy Schappy that is full of colour and whimsy.
Each tapestry artist in our group creates tapestries in their own body of work, in their own style and expression. These diverse tapestries will be featured in the show at TOSH. To share our love of tapestry and our more recent work, we are having an exhibition.
