Tales from the Odyssey to be Performed at the MAC

Hear the most exciting tales from
The Odyssey as Homer intended them
to be heard -- told from the heart

When the blind storyteller Homer told The Odyssey, he was telling the story to earn his food and for a place to sleep for the night. People sat mesmerized as he enchanted them with stories of the struggles of Odysseus to make his way home after the Trojan War.

The McMillan Arts Centre will be the setting for some of the most exciting stories from The Odyssey presented by the Tales for the Telling, Storytelling for Adults, series. The featured tellers will be Mary Gavan of Vancouver and Laurie Hutchison of Nanaimo.

Mary Gavan is a Celtic storyteller who has delighted audiences at Tales for the Telling in the past. They are eager to hear the Irish lilt in her voice as she tells her tales of wonder. Her CD, Celtic Otherworld Stories, not only has beguiled listeners, but also won a World Storytelling Award. She is the past president of the Storytellers of Canada and has told stories across Canada and in Europe.

Laurie Hutchison is a founding member of the Around Town Tellers of Nanaimo. Everything about her is story. She crossed the Atlantic on the Saxonia at 8 years old, danced for royalty throughout Europe, spent a year in a convent in Belgium to learn French, and her life is story.

Storytelling evenings at the McMillan are very popular and people are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville. The Arts Centre is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00.

If  you cannot make it to Parksville to purchase tickets in advance, tickets are also available for sale on-line at Eventbrite.ca.  Just click the link below.
