Join the Campbell River Art Gallery in the main gallery for a special live (and final) edition of our Sunday Screenings - The Chorus is Speaking Edition!
Director Daniel Negatu will be here to screen short documentary Tesfaye and Addis Negatu will facilitate a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony to be held in tandem with the film. This event is by donation. There is a max capacity for this event so grab a ticket while they last!
Structured as a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, ተስፋዬ / Hope re-imagines the extraordinary life of an Ethiopian castaway refugee, rescued from the sea in Madagascar and now living in Toronto - caught between a nostalgia for his home country and the possibility of a better life in another one.
To experiment with alternative methods of film exhibition, this film is structured as a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony which is composed of three sections - ABOL, TONA, BEREKA. The film is also broken into three sections and screened in parallel with the ceremony. It is to be stopped at the end of each section for a refill of coffee and audience participation.
