Gallo Chamber Players are a collective of performers specializing in music from the Baroque period – from 1600 to 1750. The collaborative spirit of the core players brings a vast repertoire of music to their audiences. They present concerts in various ensemble sizes, from chamber orchestras to solos, and include guest performers, both local and from abroad. Based in Vancouver, GCP aims to bring the joy and love of gut strings and historically stylistic playing to the local communities of BC. In this concert, Gallo Chamber Players will be exploring how to identify different characters and classic fairytale tropes in music, as well as how composers were inspired to retell the stories they knew through music.
Sunday August 27th 2:00 pm: Contrapunctus
BAROQUE VARIETALS: A garden concert of wind and string chamber music
Paul Luchkow, baroque violin
Marea Chernoff, baroque oboe and recorder
Andrew Clark, natural horn Katrina Russell, baroque bassoon
Contrapunctus is an ensemble dedicated to the performance of the virtuoso instrumental music of the 17th and 18th Centuries. Its members have collaborated in many concerts over the past decade, and have come together to promote the vast amount of wonderful repertoire that was written for various combinations of strings, wind instruments, and continuo. Performing on historical instruments, the ensemble aims to bring the lively timbres, colours and historical style of the time to its audiences. For this occasion, we are moving into repertoire of the Eighteenth century with a mix of dances, outdoor music and more intimate pieces, featuring some of the more unusual combinations of instruments including the Baroque Horn, Violin, Oboe, Recorder and Bassoon.
