Suite Fusion: a Modern Sound with Renaissance Sensibility


How far would you travel to make beautiful music together? Singer/songwriter Edward Moll arrived three months ago from Barrie, Ontario to join musical forces with Allannah Dow, virtuoso cellist from White Rock. Allannah combines her skill in classical cello and love of meditative chant with Edward's quirky blend of jazz and celtic stylings on guitar and viola. What emerges is unique, eclectic and joyful in its intensity.

Edward and Allannah join a long, honourable tradition of merging musical genres to bring a refreshing take on classical and contemporary numbers. A celtic melody changes into a Bach minuet and then morphs into a jazz standard with a tango attached to the end. Cello and viola meld their voices to a haunting suite of Newfoundland outport songs. As seasoned musicians, both Allannah and Ed contribute their individual and joint compositions in concerts one listener described as �Amazing!�

The collaboration inspires Edward: �Allannah and I discovered an instant and mutual love for the music we research, write, arrange and perform. In our explorations and rehearsals, ideas and possibilities from our own backgrounds and strange sense of humour result in surprises both wonderful and hilarious. I love doing this together!�

Allannah agrees: �With each session our two musical styles engage in an adventurous dance � like an improvised pas de deux � playful and serious, youthful and ancient. Whatever we weave delights us: it's ingenious fun!�
