Acclaimed Jazz Singer Miranda Sage performs STRAYHORN, MANCINI
And ME
Hermanns Jazz Club, Saturday, May 12, 2012
VICTORIA - Jazz vocalist Miranda Sage has thrived by taking daring leaps into the
unknown. But even by her own daunting standards, Strayhorn, Mancini And Me is a
bold venture, bringing an emotional yet sophisticated treasure trove of old jazz
compositions and three new songs to the stage.
Debuting three new tunes is exciting and revitalizing, said Miranda Sage. I predict it
will be a memorable evening; an exhilaratingly good show and a defining moment in my
career.
The songs chosen for the show range from well-known Mancini and Strayhorn
standards in fresh arrangements and interpretations, to Mirandas own compositions.
Sage debuts her lyrical new song 'Don't Fight The Future', will be singing new lyrics to
Strayhorn's iconic 'Isfahan,' and sings an enchanting tune by Canadian Juno Award
winner Don Thompson called Gone Astray that was composed in the Strayhorn style
but debuts with new Sage lyrics. The reinvigorated tune is called 'On This Day'.
Look forward to hearing material from Miranda Sages fifth CD Both Sides Now with a
focus on Billy Strayhorn and Henry Mancini. Strayhorn, the gifted American composer,
pianist and arranger is best known for his successful collaboration with bandleader and
composer Duke Ellington; while the genius of the versatile Mancini is best remembered
for changing the style of film background music by injecting jazz into the traditional
orchestral arrangements of the 1950s.
Expect to hear other Strayhorn favourites including 'A Flower is a Lovesome Thing' and
'Daydream', and celebrated Mancini selections 'Charade', 'Moment to Moment', and
'Slow Hot Wind'. Miranda Sage fan favourites 'Moon Tiger', 'Alone At Last', 'Blues for
Brad', and 'Thank You' are included.
This is a must see show for any smooth jazz fan, really for anyone who appreciates great jazz
and outstanding vocals. ONE NIGHT ONLY! Saturday, May12th, 8 pm, Hermanns Jazz Club,
