How is Masithuthukisane pronounced? “ma-sih-tu-tu-kih-sa-nay” The Mariannhill Masithuthukisane organic farming project is located near Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, in South Africa. The major goal of the project in South Africa is to train and hire local unemployed women and men to work in the cooperative, to feed a population of 3,500 people, including children, many of whom are undernourished.

The people of Mariannhill suffer from desperate poverty devastated by HIV/AIDS. Mariannhill is home to many orphan and grandmother-led families.

The good news is that eventually, with training and knowledge, land will be offered to local people for sustainable farming. St. Joseph The Worker Parish (Victoria) has twinned with the project 2015-2020 – and with a mandate to raise $10,000 annually. 2015 was a success. There are other fundraising events each year. St. Joseph School students care for an organic garden, communicate via pen pal letters with the children in Mariannhill, South Africa, and also contribute to fundraising events during the year for this initiative.
