The Strathcona Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming March afternoon concert hopes to evoke feelings of new beginnings for attendees and excitement for spring to arrive in the Comox Valley.
The “Springtime” program will feature composers spanning over two centuries, including “Air for Strings” (Paul Carr), “Cello Concerto No 1 in C Major” (Joseph Haydn), Palladio for Strings (Karl Jenkins) and the Holberg Suite (Edvard Grieg). Two small ensemble offerings will round out the concert with Scott Joplin’s “Bethena” (woodwind quintet) and Herman Beeftink’s “Birds” (flute trio).
The Symphony's Music Director, Helena Jung, is pleased to introduce cello soloist, Claire Mindell, who is a Grade 9 student at Courtenay's Vanier High School. Ms. Mindell will be playing the 1st movement of Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major" with the Strathcona Symphony's string section.
