Asmira's School of Oriental Bellydance was founded in Victoria B.C. in 1987 when International dancer/performer/choreographer Asmira made Victoria her home after travelling the globe teaching and performing for many years. Since then Asmira and dancers from her school have thrilled audiences in Victoria with her award winning choreographies at their Annual Theatre shows as well as many guest spots in various shows and numerous appearances at local Festivals.
Many of you will remember the legendary "Sword Dance". that Asmira Dance Theatre" performed at Folkfest years ago. Though this dance was choreographed more than 1/4 of a century ago it is still a vibrant and mysterious crowd pleaser. Asmira's beautiful and talented daughter has brought this dance back to life as part of the Annual Spring Fling concert. Be aware of the dangers as there will also be two other "Sword" dances in this show, one is a modern rendition choreographed by Asmira, the other a Tribal style piece choreographed by Asmira's beloved Tribal Fusion Instructor Rachel Brice.
Asmira is proud and excited to have the beautiful and talented Leyla Amir from Vegas performing in the show. The two share some similar experiences in their dance careers in Egypt through the 80's and early nineties. This is a must see show for anyone interested in the vibrant and illustrious history of Middle Eastern Dance. Be sure to secure your tickets early as this show just may sell out. Tickets are available at Cleopatra's Bedroom 654 Fort St.; Lyle's Place 770 Yates St and Asmira's Studio 764A Yates St. in Odeon Alley in the lower level gated area under Dragon Impact.
