Spinnakers Gastro brewpub and Guesthouses third Cask Fest this spring sold out practically before the ink was dried on the tickets. However, necessity being the mother of invention, theyve come up with a solution to have even more people try out the newest and freshest beers on Vancouver Island an After Fest.

People are obviously loving cask conditioned beers and the response from the community has been terrific, says Spinnakers manager Dustin Sepkowski. The March Cask Fest sold out in record time, but were going to have an After Fest where people can come in and enjoy the product until the taps run dry.

Sepkowski says cask conditioned beers are only at their peak of freshness for a short period of time, so the gang at Spinnakers has come up with a way to keep them cool throughout the 6 hours of the Cask Fest and afterward.

Weve devised a new, secret way to keep the beers cooled down so people can come in at 5:30 pm, after the formal Cask Fest wraps up, and enjoy these beers right up until the last pint is poured out of them, he says.

Sepkowski is keeping the price down as well. After 5 pm the 10 oz tasting glasses will go for $2.50 and a pint for only $5.

We want people to taste these incredible beers which are really a brewers art, and we want to be able to offer that experience to as many people as possible, he says.

The Cask Fest, being held Saturday, March 20, will see about 20 brewers from Victoria, Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and Washington state offering unique and special, one- of-a-kind cask conditioned beers for the occasion. Some include: Driftwood from Victoria, Vancouver Island Brewery, Crannog Ales from Sorrento, BC, Howe Sound Brewing from Squamish, Mission Springs from Mission, BC, Whistler Brewhouse, and a new entry that has never served their suds at any beer related event north of the border until now, Elysian Brewing from Seattle.

Spinnakers will be letting as many of the public know about the After Fest via their new newsletter, and encourages locals to sign up to stay up to the minute.

A lot of people have found out about the Cask Fest through the newsletter, so getting the information into the hands of as many people as possible is our goal and well use the newsletter to do that, he explained.
