Special Qualicum Beach Library presentation on Volunteering in Developing Countries
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
In 2011, Victoria-based newspaper reporter Sarah Petrescu took a year-long sabbatical to travel and volunteer in India. From the slums of Mumbai to inner city Bangalore, she met other volunteers, some working in their own communities, and others from all over the world. Each had a unique story of challenges and triumphs in the quest to help others and affirm meaningfulness in their own lives.
A common thread among them: Be prepared and be prepared to let go. Through her own personal story and anecdotes about others, Petrescu will discuss travelling and volunteering in a developing country how to prepare for extreme poverty, sanitation, cultural etiquette, dress, food, communication and compassion.
