Spawning Day at Nanaimo River Hatchery

The Nanaimo River Hatchery will be hosting a Spawning Day fundraiser that is fun for the whole family. Come see how we spawn the fish by observing a live spawning demonstration, afterwards learn all the parts of a fish at the dissection table. Adult fish can be seen either in a raised viewing aquarium or in their natural habitat. Guided stream walks will be provided for those that want to learn more about the amazing journey salmon undertake to return to the river.
You will also have the chance to release your very own coho fry into the stream. A BBQ will be offering delicious salmon burgers. There will also be a garage sale offering new and used fishing and boating gear. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go towards the operation of the Nanaimo River Hatchery. Rain or shine come support your local hatchery!
