To celebrate the advent of Spring, the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra presents some wonderful and varied repertoire for strings. The program comprises 5 works, beginning with two famous Baroque composers; Handel's "Concerto Grosso" Op. 6 no. 3 and J.S, Bach's "Concerto for 3 Violins and String Orchestra in D Major". The latter features 3 of the NCO's talented young violinists, Jasmine Mather, Joanna Lee and Hannah Stroink. The late Romantic Period yields a delightful "Serenade No. II" by Austrian, Robert Fuchs, one of Mahler's teachers. As well, from the late 19th C., the NCO will play Tchaikowsky's moving and elegant, "Elegie". And for contrast, the program includes contemporary composer, John Rutter's "Suite for Strings", a light and airy rendering of 4 English folk songs.
