New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim at Esquimalt Lagoon is back
Smart Dolphins IT Solutions fifth annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim at the south end of Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood is back. Proceeds to the Victoria Women’s Transition House.
Tuesday, December 14, 2021 — Join 2000 others on the beach at the south end of Esquimalt Lagoon for the fifth running of the New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim at noon on January 1. Proceeds from the event go to the Victoria Women’s Transition House.
Ceremonial first dive
Ceremonial first dive will be conducted by a fully uniformed Troy Birtwistle of the Victoria HarbourCats. Two-time Olympic and three-time world championships marathon runner Bruce Deacon is also back for the ceremonial first dive.
Prizes will be awarded to the divers who are judged to have the best costumes. There is also a prize for the first person in, fully immersed as well as a random draw. Generous donations made by Frontrunners Footwear and the Victoria HarbourCats.
Registration is a suggested $5 donation or $30 which includes the commemorative “I took the Smart Dolphins New Year’s Day Dive.” Tee shirts. There will be plenty of delicious hot chocolate available.
The POD and I are pleased to provide support to the Victoria Women’s Transition House, which plays such an key role in so many people’s lives in the valuable work that they do. The Swim is just one lighthearted way to help raise necessary funds for this great organization.
