This workshop is intended as a brief introduction to techniques based in themes of slowness, silence, stillness, and meditative modes of creative practice. With the publication of texts like, “Slow Art: The Experience of Looking, Sacred Images to James Turrell” (Arden Reed, 2019), an increasing number of artists, critics, and curators are encouraging new ways to look at art involving heightened states of consciousness and immersive modes of attention to engage a deeper level of critical thinking. Drawing on these approaches, this workshop will consider slowness also in relation to artistic practice - slowness as a methodology for making. Studio exercises will emphasize a mixed material approach, allowing you to experiment with charcoal, ink, pastels, and more!
