You will learn how to make a “concertina” sketchbook for your nature drawing experiments in this unique workshop. A concertina book is made by folding and cutting one sheet of paper, resulting in 26 pages or 13 pages per side. You will draw from a range of live and dried plant material. The emphasis in this workshop will be on mark making and the exploration of different tools and materials. Exercises include blind contour, gestural and observation drawing. You will be encouraged to write observational notes as you go. This will be supplemented with lateral thinking exercises to create abstracted forms and shapes from plant material. Experimentation with materials will also include watercolour, collage, wax resist, piercing and cutting.
This workshop is suited to beginners as well as more advanced artists looking to try new ways to use nature as a subject matter for drawing. Jill Ehlert
