What is SKAMpede?
Theatre SKAM’s annual summer festival SKAMpede (formerly known as Bike Ride) is an outdoor live performance festival event that is suitable for the whole family. You’ll take in a series of short shows presented along Harbour Road and the Galloping Goose Trail. Audiences travel from show to show by bicycle, rollerblade, electric mobility scooter, skateboard or on foot.
That’s crazy. How does SKAMpede work?
The audience arrives at Harbour Road. There is a Hub of activity here- transportation decoration, concession and box office tents. SKAMpeders buy a ticket, decorate their ride and then proceed to departure gates where they are met by a team of audience wranglers. At regular intervals, in groups of twelve, audiences are dispatched on a tour with a map of the relevant stretch of the trail. Each tour takes in three shows and returns to the Hub. Each tour travels in like-minded fashion: wheels with wheels and pedestrians with pedestrians. Performing companies repeat their short shows several times a day for these small audiences. Audiences may see up to four tours (12 shows) on one admission. (This takes just over three hours on wheels — longer on foot.) At the Hub between tours they enjoy delicious food and surprise bursts of entertainment.
