The Seamanship course instructed by Peter Milne is being offered by the Nanoose Squadron. Classes start on January 14th 2014 and will continue on Monday evenings from 7 pm for approximately 2 hours until April 8th. The Power Squadron Boating Course (or equivalent) is a prerequisite. Register online or email [email protected] with any queries or difficulties.
The Seamanship Course builds on the techniques introduced in the Boating Course.
The course includes dead reckoning, Marlinspike seamanship (knots), magnetic compass, deviation, fixed and floating aids to navigation, bearings and fixes, relative bearings, distance off from an object between two relative bearings, collision regulations, tides and currents, weather, wind, waves and currents, seamanship skills in adverse weather, buoyancy and stability, medical emergencies, emergencies at sea, anchors and anchoring.
