In an effort to help students and parents during the Saanich School District strike on Tuesday, May 27th, the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre will be offering a day camp for children in grades 1-5.
It will likely be a stressful day for families trying to plan their schedule, said Visitor Experience Director, Tina Kelly, so were here to help any way we can. The day camp will run during what would normally be school hours, from 9am to 3pm, giving parents an alternative option to school that is still education-based. The camp will include an assortment of hands-on projects throughout the day that will engage kids in marine science and ocean exploration, says Kelly. Theyll even get to spend time outside on the beach.
The not-for-profit aquarium often offers additional educational programming during unexpected school closures, making it a popular spot for parents to bring their kids in lieu of their regular class time. First and foremost, were an education facility, said Marketing Manager, Christina Smethurst. Our staff and volunteers are ready for visitors, rain or shineor strike.
The cost of the camp is $75 per child. To learn more and/or to register, visit http://www.oceandiscovery.ca/
