On Thursday January 27th, the Mary Lake Conservancy will host a live web-a-thon as part of its innovative campaign to protect a threatened Highlands ecosystem from development. This web broadcast PBS-style fund-drive will be open to the public at Cabin 12 (607 Pandora) from 4-8pm PST, featuring speakers, musicians, films, poets, food, a �Tweet bar� and much more!

Since launching in October 2010, the Save Mary Lake campaign has attracted National and International attention for its unusual approach and innovative use of social media, including a video contest, a pixel map that allows donors to buy a virtual square meter of the property and a weekly mini-doc series. Bob McMinn the 86 year-old EcoChampion leading the charge, has even started tweeting for the cause!

The webathon will feature live interviews with National Green Party leader Elizabeth May, Guy Dauncey (EcoFutures), environmental champion Vicky Husband, music from Oliver Swain, Karel Roessinghm, Ken Williams and Allen Dobb poetry from Times Colonist winter poet Dvora Levin, videos and will be host by Colleen Eccleston. Local social media personalities will be micro-blogging the event via the Tweet Bar and there will be an actual square to stand on while checking into the popular geolocation app, FourSquare!

Across the globe, Bob McMinn�s �Power of Many� campaign is inspiring people to donate $10 to protect a piece of untouched wilderness that connects people, parks and possibilities. This exciting event will be broadcast via Ustream on www.SaveMaryLake.com so if you cannot make it live, tune in online! This is our final community event and outreach effort to raise a million dollars by February 1st, 2011.
