7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Sam Hurrie is a blues/roots guitarist and singer currently making his home on the B.C. West Coast. He started playing in 1959 and soon after began, his lifelong fascination with the music of black America, particularly prewar acoustic blues.

He has studied and played the music where it was born, in the Mississippi and Arkansas deltas, including playing and teaching at the Sunflower River festival in Clarksdale Mississippi. His musical travels have taken him across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Sam's first love is playing in front of live audiences and sharing stories about the music and the people who created it.

He performs on a variety of instruments, including his 1930 National Steel guitar. “A slight, serious-looking man, Hurrie could easily be taken for an aging intellectual, and with his soft voice and gentle laugh he sounds like one too. But put a guitar in his hands and it’s quickly apparent that he’s a blues virtuoso, and that he’s been playing that music for a long time.”….CD Isle
