Dr. Amir Attaran is Canada’s greatest activist-academic and he joins the Salt Spring Forum for a highly stimulating discussion on Canada and international development, human rights, disease, poverty, and foreign policy. Dr. Attaran frequently comments in international media on a broad range of controversial issues such as high generic drug costs, vaccines, legalization of marijuana, assisted dying legislation, and many more.
He is a professor of both medicine and law at the University of Ottawa, and was trained at UBC, Caltech and Oxford. Dr. Attaran's current research interests include malaria, AIDS, Zika and hypertension; substandard medicines; access to medicines in less developed countries; and the application of human rights law in armed conflict and anti-terrorism. Don’t miss this far-reaching discussion with Canada's most notorious professor!
