The annual Salish Sea Lantern Festival and lantern parade, presented by ArtSea Community Arts Council cannot proceed as planned this year; however, in it’s place we bring you A Week of Lanterns! This is a fantastic opportunity for communities to participate in building community sprit.To participate:

2. Display your lanterns for everyone to enjoy during the week of August 16-22, 2020. And share your location and photos with ArtSea - there are prizes for the best lantern display. https://artsea.ca/calendar/salish-sea-festival-a-week-of-lanterns/

Salish Sea Festival: Week of Lanterns Event Details:

Lantern-building video tutorials are available on the ArtSea website and shared through our social media channels ( @ArtSeaCommunityArtsCouncil ) so that anyone and everyone can build their own lanterns. In-person workshops will also be available for families through McTavish Academy of Art and Panorama Recreation Centre to create simple lanterns. Workshops for adults wishing to create more intricate lanterns (a heart or small fish lantern) will be available through the ArtSea Gallery in Tulista Park. Sign up on the webpage. Additionally, build-your-own jellyfish lantern-kits will be available at the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea Store, Buddies Toys in Sidney, and Island Blue Art Store in Sidney.

The Salish Sea Festival: A Week of Lanterns invites the community to light up their lanterns (with battery-operated lights) from 7-10pm each night during the week of August 16-22, 2020. Lanterns can be displayed on a front lawn, hung from a balcony, or displayed in a front window; anywhere that they can be seen and enjoyed by everyone. This is a wonderful opportunity to be creative and be part of a community project in a time when community is most important. If you are displaying your lanterns, send us your location so that we can add a pin to the interactive event map. And share your event photos - there are prizes for the best lantern display! Have your community block, cul-de-sa,c or street plan a lantern display together.
